Brazil – Open Arms Worldwide
Trip Location: Brazil
Liaison Information: Open Arms Worldwide
Open Arms is a Christian organization dedicated to the physical, moral, educational, academic and spiritual development of children living in under-served and forgotten neighborhoods.
Ongoing Ministry in Brazil:
Cornerstone Projects act as the “open arms of Jesus” to over 500 children affected by prostitution, violence, drug and alcohol addiction, and abuse. Each of the nine Projects partner with a local church and strive to show children their value and hope found only in Christ. The Project volunteers and staff assist with after-school learning, sports, food delivery, home visits, arts and crafts, and weekend activities for kids between the ages of 4 and 14.
Swim and Soccer Clubs offer an opportunity for children to get involved with sports regardless of their financial situations. Athletes are provided with uniforms, training, and Bible studies led by strong Christian mentors.
Project Zadok is a group of Open Arms leaders that visits youth in correctional facilities to reach them with the message of Jesus. Each young man hears the gospel, participates in worship and is provided a “Life-Line” kit upon release, including an Open Arms t-shirt, Bible, and contact information for a Cornerstone Project in their area.
OAW is headquartered in Assis, Sao Paulo, at the intersection of major highways from Paraguay, Bolivia and other Brazilian states, making the city a major hub for illegal goods to export. This activity plagues the area with drug trade, addiction, robberies, and kidnappings. Open Arms works to build faith, integrity and Biblically-based teaching in the Project communities, with the hope that each child would experience a life-transforming encounter with the love of God.
